Wedding Entertainment

When planning your wedding you also need to think about the reception afterwards. This may be a small affair with close friends and family or a major event running on into the night. Whichever you choose you may need to think about entertainment.

If you decide to have a disco or live band playing there are plenty of booking agencies that will find the right match for you, or you may have someone local in mind anyway. In my opinion a good live band will always beat a disco, and the range of musical types available is wide. However, if they are playing to an audience of mixed ages and tastes, then a band playing well-known covers and some old rockers should fill the dance floor. Throw in some smoochy numbers at the end of the night and everyone should go home happy.

For a smaller gathering perhaps an acoustic singer or duo would be more appropriate. As well as performing after the wedding breakfast they could provide music as the guests arrive. I went to a friend's reception once where a string quartet played as the guests arrived and that provided a lovely atmosphere.

A different form of entertainment for a smaller gathering would be to hire a magician to go round the room performing tricks. Some magicians will combine this with comedy, which would add to the performance.

Yet another alternative would be to hire singing waiters. These behave like ordinary waiting staff during the reception but at a certain point break into song, surprising your guests and providing music for the occasion.

Photo booths have gained in popularity over the last few years and these provide a way for your guests to entertain themselves, though as an add-on rather than the main entertainment.

If you are allowing children at your reception, you may want to provide them with somewhere to play, and you can't go far wrong with a bouncy castle. Your only difficulty may be in keeping the adults off. Alternatively you could hire a children's entertainer to look after the little ones, leaving their parents free to enjoy your big day.

Whatever type of act you choose, you can find them in the UK Bridal Directory's Music and Entertainment section http://www.ukbridaldirectory.co.uk/Music-and-Entertainment/C27-3-0.htm.
